Off the grid

If you haven't been to Big Bend National Park, put it on your list of must go places! I was lucky enough to get an assignment last week to hike in the Christmas Mountains, which border Big Bend. These particular mountains have recently opened to the public but nobody seems to know about it. You get a permit at a ranch outside Big Bend, hike and are rewarded with views that are worth any effort to get to the top (a little less than 6,000 ft). A more difficult back country hike to the summit can be done from inside Big Bend too. Photos can't do it justice, especially mine... Gotta go back and hang with the locals too, those folks and that land are calling me back already.
